The Spot

This was a spot produced internally at CG Spectrum as part of the brand-building "We Bring the Industry to You" campaign.

Creative

For this spot, the brief was to create a brand-focused commercial that expressed the main theme of the school and capture the film zeitgeist all while demonstrating the capabilities of some of the school's more prominent staff. As during most larger creative projects, the budget was also a factor that guided the scale of the project and how best to execute it. As the film Dune had been in the news recently, we took some inspiration from the landscape alongside ideas from Star Wars with the barren wasteland look. Keeping our practical background simple allowed for much more flexibility when shooting as well as an easier time recreating the surrounding environment with less material to match.

With the direction decided, we worked on the script with Zoe Robertson from the CG Spectrum marketing team, to create a narrative that would highlight the main aspect of the school with a hint of swagger. As a showcase for what could be created in the education space alongside the skills of the staff, we wanted to ensure the creative was unapologetic and would instill confidence.

Production

Given that this is the main skillset of many of the staff production went very smoothly. Costs were mitigated by keeping the overall production overhead very low and relying on direct communications between staff and their expertise in driving a direct pipeline simply on Google Drive. As one does these days, BTS footage was captured during production and post further breaking down the specifics of production.

Overall this was great fun to work on for everyone involved and served as an example of what can be done by an educational institution to excite prospective students.
